Clergy Notes – October 2nd, 2026

Dear Truro family,

A few months ago, I shared the news that Anne Bronaugh would be stepping back as Truro’s Director of Children’s Ministry. Anne has faithfully served in this capacity for over ten years, and I know I speak for hundreds of children and families who have been profoundly impacted by her ministry. This Sunday, October 4, will be Anne’s last Sunday in her role – though, as Anne has said herself – this is not goodbye. Anne and Tim aren’t going anywhere, and will still be a part of our church family. We’ll all have a chance to thank and pray for Anne in the 10:00am service.

While we continue our prayerful search for Truro’s next Director of Children’s Ministry, I’m glad to share that Judi Deatherage has accepted my invitation to come on board as Interim Director of Children’s Ministry. Here’s a note from Judi:

“Hello! I’m a child of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, which I credit for the part of me that is up for most outdoor adventures. I trained as a teacher in a non-denominational Christian university in the South and have been living in Northern Virginia almost exclusively since 1996. My husband Todd and I have four adult children: three who are married and live nearby, and our youngest lives in Colorado Springs. We have one dreamy grandson! I spend my time walking/hiking, reading, and traveling with friends and family. I consider serving in this interim position as a gift from God.”

You’ll get a chance to meet Judi at our community night dinner on October 13. Her first Sunday with us will be October 18.

P.S. Next week I’ll be taking my annual pastoral prayer retreat. You should have received a letter in the mail from Truro with a return envelope in which you can pass along your prayer request to me. If you weren’t able to mail that back yet, please bring it to church on Sunday and drop it in the offering plate. (If you didn’t receive a letter, we’ll have them in the narthex.) It would be my joy to pray for you and send you a note back.
