Clergy Notes – November 28th, 2025

Dear Truro family,

Last weekend, a 2.5 mile long stretch of new toll lanes opened on the beltway. After over three years and $660 million dollars, drivers can now pay a sometimes-huge fee to skip a few miles of waiting in traffic. This is the American dream.

We don’t usually like waiting. I don’t know about you, but when my internet is slow, I find myself getting more anxious every moment I have to wait (gasp!) for a page or a video to load. A few minutes of waiting can feel like a travesty. Not to mention a few hours. What about a few years? Or a few centuries?

The story of the people of God is a story of a people who are asked to wait. Wait for God to move in accordance with his timing, his way, and his will. We wait. And we don’t usually like it. And this is why we need Advent. Because deep inside each one of us, we are a people who groan inwardly. And we groan with all creation, for Jesus to come. And for Jesus to make everything right and new again.

We could skip to Christmas (and Christmas carols) this Sunday. But that would be like taking a toll lane around the waiting. So I invite you to take a deep breath with us on Sundays this Advent. As we wait eagerly for Jesus to come.

Jamie
