Sanctuary Renewal
The Truro sanctuary was completed in 1959, and underwent major renovations in the mid-1980’s. Now in the year 2024, it’s time to renew the sanctuary, reflecting our gratefulness for the history of this wonderful worship space, and our confidence in our vision for its future.
We invite your financial support of this vision, over and above your regular giving, to make this renewal possible in one fell swoop this summer.
Sunday, August 25: Worship service plans:
Our 7:45am service in the chapel will be held as usual.
Our 10:00am service will be held outdoors! We’ll provide you with a worship guide so you can follow (and sing!) along. Child care in The Nest will be offered as usual.
Truro Kids in kindergarten through 6th grade (including Club 56) should check in outside and come to the undercroft for Move Up Day! Parents of new kindergartners, please walk your kindergartner downstairs to get them settled for their first time in Truro Kids!
We’ll have chairs available for you to use if you’d like, but if you’re able to bring your own chair(s), please do so!
In case there are any folks who would rather not worship outside at 10:00am, and would rather not get up early to come at 7:45am, we’ll offer an additional worship service at 5:00pm in the chapel.
December 20 update:
- As you saw last Sunday, most of the new cushions are here!
- The missing pew cushions (for the back four rows) should arrive today
- The corner pieces of the kneeling cushions around the communion rail will need to be sent back for corrections
- The transepts and balcony have new kneelers installed
- We do not have an update on timing of the corrected kneelers for the center section
- We now have full dimming control of the new chandeliers!
- The chandeliers are raised 98% of the way. We will address/improve their joist system(s) in the new year
- We do not yet have dimming control of the transept lights. This will be addressed in January 2025
- The fluorescent lighting that points up at the ceiling will be replaced with LED lighting in January 2025

In the coming weeks and months, we’ll continue to give updates on the various elements of this project. Save the date of Tuesday, June 11 for our next presentation and Q&A in the sanctuary after our community night. We'll begin at 7:00pm.
Flooring:
We will be replacing all flooring in the sanctuary, stairwells, balcony, and platform
Pews:
We will be repainting, refinishing, and cushioning all of the pews
Paint:
We will be repainting all of the walls and ceiling of the sanctuary and narthex
Lighting:
We will removing all existing lighting and their controls, and replacing them with a more modern lighting system
Narthex (updated May 23, 2024):
On Tuesday, we'll begin removing a few non-load-bearing walls, in order to provide a small amount of increased space for people to move and gather. This drawing gives you an idea of the project. To the right is the entrance into the narthex from the brick ramp. To the left, is the exit to the glass walkway. The bottom doors are the exit to the brick patio. The top doors take you down the center aisle.
