Clergy Notes – November 8th, 2024

Dear Truro family,

Another presidential election has come and gone, and as always, God is seated on his throne. From beginning to end, the Bible teaches us that God reigns sovereignly over all the affairs of the world. As we were reminded on Tuesday night at our prayer service, “it is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers” (Isaiah 40:22). Elections come and go, rulers are raised up and brought low, and nations rise and fall, but “the Lord is the everlasting God” (Isaiah 40:28). So, whatever you’re feeling and experiencing in response to the election results, be assured that God is neither more in control now because your candidate won, or lessin control now because your candidate lost. Preach to your own emotions (whatever they are) and remind yourself what is ultimately true: our God reigns above the circle of the earth. This world, and the future of all its grasshoppers, belongs to him.

This is my Father’s world: The battle is not done
Jesus who died shall be satisfied
And earth and heaven be one

Your brother,
Jamie
