Clergy Notes – November 29th, 2024

Dear Truro family,

Now as the countdown to Christmas begins, and all the festivities kick into high gear, the season of Advent invites us to reorient ourselves around a different kind of countdown. We’ll sing about that when we begin the season of Advent this Sunday:

O come, O come Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel

Not only is Christmas Day getting closer, but so is the Final Day. With every hour that passes, this world is that much closer to the second “advent” (i.e. coming) of Emmanuel. Jesus came once as a baby in Bethlehem, and his incarnation deserves our celebration. Jesus is also coming again as the King in triumph, and his return deserves our anticipation and our preparation.

Jesus has come. Jesus is coming. Rejoice and get ready.
