Clergy Notes – March 10th, 2023

Dear Truro Family,

This past Sunday, as we finished our study of Paul’s letter to the Philippians, I shared the following “charge” with you all.

1. Stand firm on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Never depart from this precious gospel. Never subtract from it. Never add to it. Never grow tired of it. Never move on from it. Go deeper into the glories and the mysteries of this good news and find life in it.

2. Agree in the Lord. Never allow your differences or disagreements to obscure your view of the most excellent, the most beautiful, the most wonderful Jesus Christ. Love one another as Christ himself loved you and gave himself up for you. Love one another with that same sacrificial love.

3. Set your gaze forward. Forget all that lies behind. Count it all as rubbish. Count it all as loss. Fix your eyes on Jesus and strain forward towards him. That you might gain him, and him alone. Hold fast to what you have attained. Put your feet upon the feet of your father and let him work his dance in you.

4. Don’t forget to remember. As C.S. Lewis wrote: “…Remember, remember, remember the signs. Say them to yourself when you wake in the morning, and when you lie down at night, and when you wake in the middle of the night. And whatever strange things may happen to you, let nothing turn your mind from following the signs…”

Remember: first things first. We always come full circle, back to Jesus. Deeper into Jesus. It’s a privilege to strain forwards towards Jesus alongside you all.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.” (Phil. 4:23)
