Clergy Notes – January 2nd, 2026

Dear Truro family,

Happy New Year! Whatever the last year brought you – whether it was happiness, heartache, or everything in-between – we now look back on 2025 in the rear-view mirror. A new year is upon us, and one day at a time we find ourselves moving along in our lives, and moving on from the past. But that raises the question: what exactly are we moving on towards? If we’re not clear about what’s in front of us, we’ll just walk in circles.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 3:13-14: “…one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” That sums up the direction of the Christian life. It’s a life that moves on, for sure. But what does it move on towards? Towards knowing, trusting, and abiding in Jesus.

The Christian life is lived walking with, in, and towards Jesus. By grace, through faith. So, as we leave last year behind, and walk into whatever 2026 holds, let’s fix our eyes on him. One step and one day at a time.
