Clergy Notes – December 1st, 2023

Dear Truro family,

This Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Advent. The word “Advent” comes from the Latin word “adventus” and literally means “coming”. We proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again. He came once as a baby, and he will come again (soon!) as King. This season is meant to reorient us around that certain hope. These weeks aren’t just supposed to be busy, and filled up with things to do and presents to buy. Advent is meant to stop us in our tracks, help us take a breath, and invite us to lift our eyes to heaven, praying “O come, O come, Emmanuel.” I’m looking forward to seeing you this Sunday as we worship God together, begin a new sermon series in the Book of Isaiah, and ask the Holy Spirit to prepare us with expectancy for Jesus’ coming.

Your brother,
Jamie
