Clergy Notes – January 6th, 2023

Dear Truro Family,

I’ll never forget the time I heard God laugh.

I had been praying about something for years and years. And nothing had changed, and nothing had happened. But then one day, something changed. Something happened. And as I was getting off of an elevator, I remarked under my breath: “God, you’re up to something, aren’t you?”

And I heard God laugh. Not quite audibly, and I don’t know how to describe it, but deep in my soul I heard God laugh. A kind, Fatherly kind of laugh. Almost as if to say: “I’m up to something? Of course, I’m up to something! I’m God!”

Brothers and sisters: God is up to something at Truro. And he’s always been up to something! But praise God, I think more and more of us are now perceiving it. This reminds me of the verse from Isaiah 43:19:

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

That’s what God is up to. So, let’s pray for eyes to see it, and faith to believe it in this new year for our church. And maybe even ears to hear when he’s laughing.

Your brother,

Jamie

PS: Catherine and I would love to see you at this Sunday’s newcomer’s lunch. This is for anyone who’s still getting connected into the life of our church, or who wants to explore more about Truro.
