Dear Truro Family,

We invite you to take a few moments – wherever you are and whenever you’re reading this note – to remember again just how wonderful Jesus is, as we reflect on these stunning verses from Colossians 1:15-20:

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Jesus manifests to us the righteousness, goodness, wisdom, and power of God. What glory!

16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

Everything – literally everything – that exists, that we can see and that we can’t see, is subject to Jesus. What authority!

17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Not only is everything subject to Jesus, but everything is sustained by Jesus. What power!

18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

Jesus governs the Church. He authored it, he is restoring it, and he will be honored by it. What greatness!

19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,

Everything that our hearts can desire can be found in Jesus, the very fullness of God himself. What wonder!

20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Jesus himself is our reconciliation, both to one another, and to God. And he himself is our peace, because he made peace on the cross. What a Savior!

In view of the glory of majesty of Jesus, Charles Wesley’s words seem appropriate:

O, for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise

The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace!

May the light of Jesus shine in your home and in our church this week,

Your Truro Clergy
