Clergy Notes – October 23rd, 2026

Dear Truro family,

I recently read the firsthand account of a visitor to a church in another part of the country. The beginning of his visit was wonderful. He was greeted at the door, shown to an open seat, and even offered a cup of coffee. But then his experience changed. At the end of the service, the pastor met the newcomer and said: “We’re a big church. If you’d like to meet people, you’ll have to walk up to them and say ‘please notice me!’” Needless to say, that visitor didn’t return.

It’s important that all of us who call this church home are always on the lookout for new or unfamiliar faces, and that we take the first step towards welcoming them and getting to know them. If you get to church early or stay afterwards for coffee and fellowship, let me encourage you to connect not only with the people you know, but especially with those who are new. It’s your job to notice them, so that they never have to ask.

Your brother,
Jamie
