Clergy Notes – November 7th, 2025

Dear Truro family,

Next Sunday, November 16, I’ll be inviting you to make your financial commitment to this church for the coming year. You’ll find cards in the pews with space to indicate what you’ve been led by the Holy Spirit to give. You can choose to include your name if you’d like. Or you can keep it anonymous.

Each November as a church family, we pause to consider three questions:
(1) Are we giving?
(2) How much are we giving?
(3) And most importantly — what motivates our giving?

The New Testament teaches that our giving is no longer motivated by law. Not by a fixed percentage or an external requirement. Instead, in view of God’s mercy toward us in Jesus, our giving flows from the lavish gift of his grace in our lives. The same grace that saved us and set us free from sin is the same grace that now sets us free to give — and to give gladly, not under compulsion. The Holy Spirit enables glad, generous, grace-inspired giving among the members of the Body of Christ as partners in the gospel.

We don’t give to God in order to receive from God – that’s the false promise of a prosperity gospel. We give because we have received from God – that’s the genuine response to the gospel.

Over the coming week, I invite you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and your family as you consider (1) if, (2) how much, and (3) why you’re giving.

I’m so grateful for each one of you!
Jamie
