Dear Truro Family,
I came to Truro in 2015 from the wild, wild west of campus ministry, new to Virginia and new to the Anglican tradition. Even then, we knew that I was called to be an Anglican priest and to plant a church, but we didn’t know much of what either of those things meant. At the time we only had two boys (not three), and they were 4 and 2 years old. Our oldest started at TPK — this past week, he started at Robinson Secondary.
In the past 8 years I’ve learned how to do weddings and funerals. I’ve been privileged to be a part of your baptisms and burials. I’ve spoken at youth retreats, led countless kids Sunday school classes, and taught the Bible in person and on Zoom. I’ve spent time in TPK and with the Seniors. I’ve sang and danced and been pied in the face by the new rector. I’ve been ordained and preached and celebrated and served and prayed, and I am filled with gratitude for this particular expression of Christ’s body and the role I’ve been privileged to play here. It has been such a gift to be one of your pastors.
I don’t feel prepared for this new thing that God has called us into, but I feel much better equipped than I was 8 years ago. God is so faithful, and I am so excited to be a part of the story He is writing in Burke — a story that is an extension and an outgrowth of the story He is writing at Truro in Fairfax.
Now to him who is able to keep us from stumbling and to present us blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen (Jude 23-24).
