Clergy Notes – July 14th, 2023

Dear Truro Family,

One of the things I hope we’re all learning as we study the book of Psalms together is that we can always be real with God. Our great and awesome God reveals himself to us, and invites us to respond to him, and in responding to him, we can be absolutely real, unfiltered, and honest with him.

This is because of what we confess together every Sunday at the beginning of our services: all of our desires are known to him, and none of our secrets are hidden from him.

J.I. Packer wrote this in his amazing book Knowing God:

“There is tremendous relief in knowing that (God’s) love to me is utterly realistic, based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery now can disillusion him about me, in the way I am so often disillusioned about myself, and quench his determination to bless me.”

Just think about that for a moment. God’s love for you is utterly realistic! Praise God! He knows you, he sees you, and he hears you. You can always be real with God. Because God’s love is always real for you, and he’s always determined to bless you.

Your brother,

Jamie

P.S. If you’re new to Truro, or just still feeling a bit disconnected from the community here, please join Catherine and me for lunch this Sunday, July 16, after the 10 AM service. We’ll start around 11:45 AM or so. Click below to RSVP. We’d love to see you and get to know you better!
